Question

Hi people,

I'm trying to add a very very simple text field to each product page.

This text field will be placed next to the "Available Options:".

It will allow the customer to enter some text, and when they add the item to the cart, the text will show on the order/cart.

Any ideas how I can add this small feature? (no commercial items please)

Many Thanks!

Answers

currently it cannot be done without a commercial mod. It will be possible in 1.5 when it's released. I know it seems like it would be a small feature to you, but it is actually rather difficult to code in.

That you mean if someone push the add to cart button then your new field auto visible? after it your purchaser able to enter some text then send it to database? and then it will show in cart page? if so too many pages/files need to edit.

like this website..

But I would only need one field (name)

Would it still need to get added into the database/SQL? :S

if only 1-2 field then you can use unused product field e.g. Misc Location

brilliant idea!! how would I write/use that?

Id have to send the textbox info to the cart, using misc location field?

The other easy option is the comment box in Checkout. You could change the text to something like "Add your peronal text during checkout". Then change the text during checkout to something like "Add your personal text". But you would be best with the Global Mega Options - it's exactly what you want and only costs $25.

I mean You can use the database field of Misc Location for Your new input text field, but of course You can also send the text box to the cart, it depend on what are you looking for.

yeah, Sorry I wasn't quite clear on that.

How would I use the database field"Misc Location" ? ie write to the field/read from it? (I'm trying to get my head around it)

Thanks for the info to start with by the way!
